The application

MacStep opens files from your disk and draws them on your screen. That is all it does. It opens no sockets, contacts no server, and has no update check, no crash reporter, no analytics and no licence check. You can confirm this by reading the source, or by watching it with Little Snitch or lsof while it runs.

The files you open never leave your machine. Nothing about them — not a name, not a size, not a count — is transmitted anywhere.

MacStep writes two things outside its own folder: a list of your recently opened files, so the Open Recent menu works, and whatever you explicitly choose to export. The recent-files list is a plain text file in your user application-data directory. Delete it any time; nothing depends on it.

This website

Static pages served by GitHub Pages. No cookies, no analytics, no tag manager, no embedded video, no fonts loaded from anyone else's server — the two typefaces are served from this site alongside the page. There is no form to fill in, so there is nothing to submit.

GitHub serves the files and, like any web server, sees the request: your IP address, the page asked for, and your browser's user-agent string. That is between you and GitHub, and is governed by their privacy statement. Nobody here reads or receives those logs.

If you contact the project

Opening an issue or a pull request happens on GitHub under your own account and their terms. Anything you write there is public. Please don't paste confidential drawings into a bug report — a description of the problem is nearly always enough, and if a file really is needed, say so and we will find another way.

Ask on the issue tracker. There is no data of yours to request, correct or erase, because none was ever taken.
